How do fake tans work?

How do fake tans work?

Spray tanning and self tanning involves applying DHA (dihydroxyacetone) to your skin using a specialist HVLP spray tan machine or using an at home self tanning lotion, mousse or gel.
DHA is derived from plant sources such as sugar cane or sugar beets and has a natural reaction with the amino acids in the epidermis. This reaction is what causes the dead skin cells to darken temporarily simulating a tan.

The effects of the DHA are temporary. You are constantly shedding dead skin cells so within a few days your "tan" will start to disappear. You can expect your tan to last 5-10 days. Exfoliation, prolonged water submersion, or heavy perspiration can lighten the tan quicker as these contribute to rapid dead skin cell exfoliation.

Take your tanning routine to the next level by using our award winning fake tan drying powder! Our CocoDRY™ Fake Tan Drying Powder does not contain DHA so will not tan your skin, it is your fave brand of tan's perfect companion!
